Sew Over It Pussy Bow Blouse Review
June 29, 2016
Yet another Sew Over it Pattern! As I said, I made a number of different patterns from this company, and there's still more! This Is the Pussy Bow Blouse, another winner in my book. There are two options, Version 1 has the bow tie around the neck with "keyhole opening" and Version 2 has a V neck with the bow tie at the bottom of the V. I made version 2. This design is sophisticated and could definitely be worn in a professional setting. It looks great with jeans as well as skirts, and is a refreshing alternative to a classic collared button up blouse.
I made this with a viscose from Sew Over It's online shop. It is no longer available but they always have a pretty solid stock of delightful rayon/viscose prints and solids alike. Another great thing about their website is you can search for fabric by their patterns, so they will direct you towards appropriate materials for each project.
While sewing this up, I made myself baste some of the curvier seams before machine stitching. I usually do this with viscose/rayon because it can be really slippery. More often than not, when I sew a sleeve in without taking the extra step to baste, i end up with a pucker, yell mother#$%^**! and have to seam rip that sucker.
Some very pleasant results with the cuffs. The instructions walk you through "rouleaux button loops." They add a really nice polished touch to the whole garment. The only thing to be careful of is where you place them on the cuff because there is a narrow margin of error.
I love the way the blouse fits. I went back to size 10 for this pattern and it was just right. If I were to modify anything next time, I would lengthen the shirt just about a half an inch. I am on the tall side and always wish shirts were just a tiny bit longer, especially drapey, flouncy fitting ones. If I were to make another one, I would definitely go with viscose again but maybe in a solid color for a little variety.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
